Himalayan Salt lamps are very popular since the 1990s. Their red-orange light has a calming and relaxing effect at the same time. Salt lamps improve the air and placed in bedrooms, they improve the sleep. About 250 million years ago, layers of salt rocks were created from deposits due to the dehydration of the oceans. The salt is mined in large mines over 1000 meters deep and transported upwards in large chunks. Each salt crystal is unique. The main mining area is the Khewra Salt Mine in Punjab, Pakistan. It's about 200 kilometers southwest of the Himalayas, which is why the pieces mined there are also known as Himalayan salt stones. They are characterized by their oramge tones, thanks to the iron ions they contain. Himalayan salt crystals are particularly pure, free from environmental toxins. So far, it has not yet been sufficiently studied whether and to what extent salt crystal lamps have a positive effect on our health. Nevertheless, many experience reports prove their positive effects and they are very often found in practices and Spas or other wellness institutes.
Salt attracts moisture and can sweat in a damp room. So be sure to put your lamp in a dry room to avoid salt deposits.
